During 1998, the United States Mint sold 4,320,000 ounces of silver through its bullion program. This marked the second consecutive increase from the low level reached in 1996. The approximate silver bullion value of the Silver Eagle coins sold by the US Mint during 1998 was $22,854,100. This amount is calculated based on the average monthly price of silver and the bullion coins sales for each month.
The sales figures below represent monthly sales, which may include coins minted in multiple years. The US Mint also produced and sold proof coins for collectors. Only bullion coin sales are included below.
