1987 American Silver Eagle Sales

The table below displays the US Mint’s 1987 Silver Eagle bullion sales figures. This marked the first full year of offering for the United States silver bullion coin.

During 1987, the US Mint sold 9,420,000 ounces of silver. This would represent the greatest sales amount until the rush to precious metals leading up to Y2K. The high sales were likely the result of pent up demand for bullion products. The silver value was approximately $64,850,300 calculated based on the average monthly price of silver and the bullion coins sales for each month.

The sales figures represent monthly sales totals, which may include coins minted in multiple years. Only bullion coin sales are included. The US Mint separately produced and sold proof coins for collectors.
